SHUTTER SPEED
The shutter speed is one of the three fundamentals every photographer should know about, the other two are the aperture and the ISO.
The shutter speed is the speed at which your camera takes a picture. By setting the shutter speed you will either be able to freeze the action or blur the motion. In a DSLR, there is a little panel in front of your camera sensor (shutter) which open and close when you take a picture. The speed at which it will open and close is the shutter speed.

In your camera you can set the shutter speed to be very fast, such as 1/1600, 1/4000 of a second...
You also have to consider that if you set a fast shutter speed, then there will be a lot less light which will be hitting your sensor than a slow shutter speed. This means that if the day is very bright then you will have no problem to shoot at a fast shutter speed, but if you are taking pictures in a dark environment, you will have to play with the aperture and ISO in order to get a proper exposed picture. |
When we talk about slow shutter speed we can think about 1", 2", 2"5, seconds...
